Hohner Clavinet D6 + Fender Fuzz Wah rhythm guitar concepts - YouTube

Still gotta press Shift + Enter to make proper page breaks. Not sure if that can even be changed. Anyhow, test of URL - should not automatically embed the video.

Sweet... It'll automatically fetch the title and post that when you type in a URL.

Anything Else / I've grown fond of the logo overhang.
« on: November 20, 2018, 08:43:44 AM »

The cassette (I seem to recall they're officially called 'compact cassettes) overhangs from the blue to the white.

I have grown fond of it. It's trivial to change, 'cause Ol' Buddha is getting better at image editing. But I kinda like it.

I even made that cassette image in GIMP! Damned right, I did. Well, more accurately I added the text and was able to manipulate the text to appear centered. That took surprisingly few tries, like just three or four. I didn't even have to close GIMP and start over again!

Anyhow, I kinda like it.

I did NOT get an email on this reply. And just my opinion, but I don't like this theme as much as the last one.

Also, you can enable notifications - they're disabled by default on your account. New accounts should have them enabled by default.

https://fngt.gq/index.php?action=profile;area=notification;u=1

You'll automatically get notices if someone types @COF, irrespective of that particular setting. (That might be something you can adjust in your profile, I haven't dug through all those options yet.)

I don't like it as much, either.

Unfortunately, I don't have time (or inclination, I suppose) to learn the prerequisite skills to take an existing theme and modify it to work with the various modifications that I'd like the forum to have.

This *may* change in the very near future. SMF is moving to a different process for themes. When that is done, themes will be significantly easier to work with. It depends on when their RC3 goes to official release and then a short time for folks to develop themes for the new system.

At that point, it'll be even better - 'cause I'll easily be able to set it up so that you can select from multiple themes and have all the same feature set.

Until then, this was the better of the bunch. I really, really prefer a darker theme - 'cause all this light makes my eyeballs hurt after a while.

Yep, I got an email telling me this. Seems to work.

I'm almost done. Yay!

General Discussion / Finally... I think I have it!
« on: November 19, 2018, 12:14:07 PM »

The theme you should see, as the site currently looks, should be the final theme tried!

I should explain...

SMF, that's the software that runs this forum, has a theme system and a plugin system. The default theme kind of sucks and I am just not skilled enough to modify it. I don't have the required skills, nor do I feel compelled to learn them. 'Snot what I enjoy doing.

The thing is, the plugin system uses a fancy 'find/replace' mechanism. That's handy, but many themes deviate so far from the core/default theme that they simply don't have the text to find/replace with. So, getting the plugins to work is a herculean task and one I'm absolutely unwilling to do.

I pretty much tried dozens of themes. You may have seen them. As it is, this needs more customization, but it's progressing nicely. The damned image up there at the top needs to be shrunk by like 8 to 10 pixels. I will eventually get there, but it's now time to extend the functionality and check stability. Then I can worry about cosmetic issues.

Wow... That was a pain in the ass. I so hope I'm right and that this theme is the one that'll work for us. If not, I'm gonna be grumpy as all hell - or just not add features that I'd have added.

I need to go back and change group member colors. I'll get there.

General Discussion / What is this site for?
« on: November 18, 2018, 17:48:18 PM »

This site is to combine the resources that we have scattered around, and to create a central repository of said resources.

The main goal of this site is to archive all of the tracks that are submitted in Friday Night Guitar Threads (FNGT). Each week, when the thread has stopped being active, a new post will be published. Inside that post, there will be a link to all the various songs that were shared, as well as a label for who shared what.

The formatting for that is bound to change as it gets refined over time, but that's okay. The goal is to create an archive.

For now, we'll just be doing this from here on out. If you'd like to do the older threads, feel free to do so. Just register and follow the same patterns that I use. It won't take long before everyone understands what's going on.

We will also be using this site as a backup. Should Voat's servers go down, we have here to reconvene. I'll make a few generic categories and we can add whatever categories we might need to the list as we go along. However, the goal is not to detract from our regular guitar threads, but to provide an addition to those threads.

This will require work. I can't commit to doing all the work - but I'll do the first few weeks to get things sorted and make sure everything does work as planned.

NOTE: I will be asking for donations. The cost of web hosting is spiralling out of control! Between the three music sites for Voat, it's about $480/year. The hosting for this one domain is about $150/year, by itself. I can pay for it by myself, but it'd be nice to have some help. Moreover, I'd actually like to put these sites into some sort of trust. Basically, I'd like them to be able to keep running, even if I'm not here.

(Speaking of which, I'll need someone to be a backup admin, I'm pretty sure. We'll see how that goes and who sort of gets nominated or nominates themselves after a sufficient period of time has passed and we're reasonably sure of trust.)

Because I have severe time restrictions, and not much assistance from the peanut gallery, there will be no "Grand Opening."

Instead, I'll roll out features as I go. For now, I'm going to get the basic functionality working and I'll then continue to improve the site as we move along.

If you'd like to request features, offer to help, or can think of anything to add to this project, let me know.
