General Discussion / V is acting up...

I don't suppose anybody thought to just go here?

(It is actually one of the original reasons that it is here.)

General Discussion / I will be landing shortly.

Then it's a quick trip to the hotel and hopefully some food.

Anyhow, I'll be posting more here than on Voat, at least more salient things. I've got limited online time as I'll be busy. A lot of us came this time, but I'm hoping I'm not obligated to entertain them. If I am, then that's even less time. Still, the time will be well spent and (obviously) it is time I want to spend. I am pretty sure the car rental company left us two sets of keys in their box thingy. I hope so, at any rate.

I got some notifications of being mentioned and see @COF has been busy updating the archives.

I ain't writing you a speech, but I am gonna say thanks!

Sorta...

This was the least productive day in the studio, pretty much for well over a decade. I'm actually more productive in my own studio at home.

But... We had a good time!

We've got to go out for some food, but we should be there sometime *around* the right time.

I will not be opening the FNGT this week. Next week doesn't look good, either! The following week is right out.

Then I'll probably be home for a while. I'm almost done adventurin'.

General Discussion / Continuing with a theme...
« on: September 10, 2019, 11:37:54 AM »

Yesterday, I showed off my "luxurious" travel. I did, too. I contacted both @Nadeshda and @crazy_eyes off site and said that I was on here showing off.

In my defense, it was a successful gambit! Both of 'em came over and said hello.

This morning, we acquired a car (specifically a loaner from a nearby dealership) and ate a delicious, hearty breakfast. We had our breakfast delivered right to this hotel room.

Except, well, it's a bit of a misnomer to call it a "hotel room." If it  were strictly up to me, I'd be in a cheap Econo Lodge. However, the missus will be along in 'a few days.' She'll be along largely because I bribed her with food and creature comforts. Do note that she hasn't actually reserved a specific flight time, or anything like that. The company we've been using prefers a 24 hour notice, and can't commit to anything with less than 24 hour notice. Well, they can, but boy don't they raise the price!

Anyhow, we are in a fancy hotel room. Wanna see? Open the first attachment!

The bathroom is even kinda fancy. I have a choice of a bidet or a regular toilet, for starters. But, it also includes fancy boxes for the various toiletries you might see at other hotels.

See the second attachment! (I'm not sure the picture will be clear enough to read them all, but you can get the general idea.)

And, the last attachment is my bed. The couch pulls out, if you move stuff around. But, this is the bed where I sleep. It's pretty comfy!

For reasons too mundane to get into, I don't get baby-time until like 15:00. So, we jammed for a while and we're just going to let room service feed us lunch. But, now you can see a bit of what we see when we look around. It's pretty fancy. There's even a kitchenette, but it's not like the kitchenette you get in a cheap hotel. It's got like a dishwasher, real stove, etc..

It also has bottles of water,  just tiny 12 oz bottles, for $2 each. It's not even fancy water. It's like cheap spring  water, Dasani stuff I think it's spelled.

Site Questions / DB Error...
« on: September 09, 2019, 18:49:55 PM »

I'm not 100% certain, but I have removed "location" as a profile field entry. As it was looking for "countries", that's probably a good place to start.

Alternatively, it's just the hosting company having issues with DB connectivity at an untimely point. Or it's a country flags type of mod, but I'm not seeing one installed.

General Discussion / Pondering the Invites?
« on: January 07, 2019, 15:12:12 PM »

I have this for options:

I could stagger them, starting at "Newbie" as 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 invites (every 30 days) and provide maybe an incentive to post more frequently.

I can also leave it just like it is.

If anyone as any feedback, I'd love to hear it.

Site Questions / Inivitation system is enabled and configured.
« on: January 07, 2019, 11:05:54 AM »

Every 30 days, you will get three invites. The invites are not cumulative. The invites give them 15 days to register.

If, for some bizarre reason, you run out of invitation codes to give out, then just ask an admin (@COF or myself) for an invitation code.

Either way, open registration is now closed. You, the community, decide who gets to participate.

After some thought, I will not be holding people accountable for the actions of those they invite - unless a pattern of abuse becomes self-evident and demonstrable to the standard of "reasonable person." (Mostly 'cause I'm too lazy to kick and ban people and I really don't like doing so.)

Anyhow, the very top of your page should have a link to invites. You can also click this link:

https://fngt.gq/index.php?action=invite

It's pretty simple and shouldn't need much explaining. You can generate them and hand them out, or you can send 'em to people's email addresses automatically. I'm confident that you'll all understand how the system works, but I'll answer any questions you might have.

Don't reply by email. It'll have a link that'll take you right to the forum and right to the thread you want to be in! It's handy like that.

If you reply by email, I get it. That's probably okay, but not okay if you wanted it posted on the board OR you wanted it to be in any way private. I mean, I get 'em in plain text.

In theory, I can rip out the database and read private messages. So, those aren't really that private - but I have zero reason to expend that energy. You should know that, however.

Your passwords are hashed and salted, stored encrypted. That much I can assure you of. We store no plain text passwords and the hash will make recovering them via rainbow table pretty fucking close to impossible in a reasonable number of years.

The little Green Icon in the top tells you we're also encrypted - but that's only in transit. The rest is plain text.

So, if you value your privacy (and want to make the most of the forum) don't reply to the email. That just fucks everything up!

Anything Else / I will tell you about Bob.
« on: December 19, 2018, 12:12:19 PM »

I have no particular reason to type this out, except to say that it should be typed out. Bob has zero to do with this site.

Bob was a dog. In fact, he was a not-so-cleverly named pug.

As some of you may know, some of my earliest years were spent on a military base, or very close to it. More often than not, we all stayed on property that was technically on the base but was like standardized homes filling a cull-de-sac. Some of them were quite large.

Not this one, however. No, this one was maybe four blocks by four blocks, and Bob knew it well. "Bob Dog" was usually called "Bob Dog" to the kids of the neighborhood, but Bob was his real name.

Bob,s owner had, at some point in time, just given up trying to make Bob eat regular dog food. I don't recall the actual owner feeding the dog anything other than Pepsi (later Diet Pepsi) and Reece's Peanut Butter cups.

Bob was rotund. Imagine a 30 pound pug.

Bob was run over at least twice.  Bob did not much care. He'd go hide and lay down and come back out a few days later.

Bob was on a mission. Bob was on a very important mission, at least to Bob.

He had a certain path to his outside activities - and he was constantly outside, except at night.

What Bob did was go from house to house to house at the houses that had kids. At which point, he'd hound for candy. The dog had a candy addiction.

He was good at it, too. As he'd make his rounds, he'd skip the houses that didn't have people who'd give him candy. When the ice cream truck came by, he knew where and when he should be there 'cause he could pant in the summer and the driver would often give him an ice cream.

He was also good at stealing. If you put a soda on the ground, he'd knock it over and lick it up. He'd taken things out of back pockets, etc. Bob pretty much lived on candy.

Strangely enough, that worked. He lived for like 16 years. I'm pretty sure Bob was a mutant.

Anything Else / I have had an epiphany!
« on: December 17, 2018, 12:51:02 PM »

Until about 30 minutes ago, I was wanting to say Tom Petty was a better guitarist than he really was.

I decided to listen to his entire discography. That was a mistake.

Site Questions / Playing with a new theme...
« on: December 12, 2018, 17:27:41 PM »

It has a light and dark mode and it looks like this:

If you're interested in taking a peek at it, maybe looking for some bugs, please let me know.

Because of the way the theme system works, and not wanting to introduce more hassle than required, there's only a subset of themes that you can use (unless you're an admin). Some of them have horrible bugs and some just need to be deleted!

Anyhow, if you'd like to play with it then let me know and I'll manually set your theme for you - when I have the time to do so. If I do set your theme, you can always reset it yourself. I'd also like it if you made it a point to look for bugs and place those bugs into this thread.

Bonus points if you come up with some nifty images for me to replace.

And, if you're uncertain, you can change back to your other theme at any time. However, you won't be able to flip back and forth between them.
