The URL has changed again:https://www.upgoat.net/v/Guitar

August 20th, 2017 was the very first FNGT. It has now been six years.

So, come swing by and say hello. Heck, you don't even have to say hello. Just swing by and check it out.

It'd be great if you did say something and share a track, but you don't have to. There's never any pressure.

I should have sent this earlier in the week. I failed to do so.

So, I know this is cutting you short - but you still have time to come jam out with us.

The domain has changed, again:

Upgoat - "where a goat can be a goat"

But, tonight is our 6th year anniversary! We've had the guitar thread for six fricken' years. That's insane! That's longer and greater than anyone ever thought it'd be. In fact, our 6th year anniversary was on the 20th, so we're a little behind the 8-ball.

If you have time, it'd be so awesome if you managed to swing by and say hello. You don't have to share a new track or anything. Heck, you don't even have to say anything. Just come check it out and see. We've only had a few people participating lately, so your contributions would also be welcomed.

General Discussion / The FNGT is moving!
« on: March 31, 2023, 17:59:21 PM »

Tonight, and for the foreseeable future, the FNGT will be held on Talk.lol.

Like before, you don't have to like the whole site if you want to participate in the guitar sub. Leave your politics aside and come share in the music making. Life's too short to not jam when you can.

Link:

Talk.lol - Just Talk lol

I hope to see you there, as it looks like there's bound to be quite a bit of activity.

If not, feel free to swing by the forum and update us to let us know that you're not dead.

So, maybe this is a chance for some of you to stop by when you've been unwilling to visit us at Poal?

It'd be nice to have you.

Of course, if Poal is open we'll be holding the thread there.

You know... I'm not entirely against changing servers at some point. I do want talk.lol to have some longevity before moving. That'd help me make that decision.

For those of you who have abstained from posting on Poal, or anyone really, feel free to leave a comment here on the FNGT site itself. We'll monitor the discussion and maybe we'll consider relocating on a long-term basis. Poal has been pretty good to the guitar sub, however. By that, I mean they just leave us to do our thing.

General Discussion / The FNGT is having its 4th year anniversary!
« on: August 14, 2021, 13:53:26 PM »

Next week, it will be the 20th of August. That's actually our 4th year anniversary.

See this thread for a short history: https://fngt.gq/general-discussion/a-short-history-of-the-friday-night-guitar-thread-and-title/

Now, I know some of you don't like Poal, where we currently host the thread. That's fine. You don't have to use the rest of the site. You can just come participate in the thread. You can be nice, mature adults who are able to ignore things they don't like! I know you can do it. I have faith in you!

Anyhow, I hope this reaches all of you and that you're in either good health or good spirits. We'd love to see you, even if it's just for one day out of the year. You don't even have to bring anything new, you can just show up. You can even share a track you've shared before.

Cheers,

TB

General Discussion / I must have been honest...

During registration or when filling out my profile data, I appear to have told the truth.

General Discussion / Welcome, new people!
« on: December 23, 2020, 14:06:59 PM »

This site has been around for more than 2 years. We've linked to it in nearly every guitar thread since, though few people joined. That's fine. It's still here.

As you can see, it's set up to handle pretty much anything you'd have to talk about with regards to musicianship. The site is here for you. Use it accordingly.

Once you've made a few posts, you'll have 'invites' you can give away. If you need any invitations before that, just ask myself or @COF. We'll get you squared away. Just remember that the main subject here is music and musicianship. This is *not* a free-speech zone and we have a parent hosting company that we're beholden to. That means we've got to have rules.

Anyhow, make yourselves at home. We house the archives here, so you can re-listen to anything that was previously shared in the FNGT. We also have infrastructure for everything else music-related, including a marketplace and I can do appraisals rather well - though those sections of the site are pretty much ghost towns. They still exist and will likely continue to exist.

At some point, depending on how things go, I may open up registrations to the general public - but that doesn't seem like a requirement at this time. The invite-only system has worked REALLY WELL at keeping the riffraff away.

As always, rock on.

General Discussion / V is closing and the FNGT is moving...
« on: December 22, 2020, 08:42:38 AM »

Sadly and unfortunately, Voat is closing. Because of this, we will be hosting our Friday Night Guitar Thread on Thursday night, at about the same time. We're aiming for 20:00 Eastern, but it may be slightly later - or even slightly earlier.

Then, we're going to rock out the clock as far as we can. It's Christmas Eve, so we'll have to see what kind of traffic we get. I don't expect it to be all that busy on Friday morning and Voat is slated to close at 12:00 PST.

Then, we're *probably* going to do it all over again on Friday night at Poal!

Please, please try to attend. We'll be discussing our contingency plans. There will be laughter, joy, and maybe even a few quiet tears.

It's okay. It really is. The Voat FNGT had a good run, going somewhere near 3.5 years. It isn't going to die. It's just moving to a new location.

We FNGT coordinators thank you for past contributions and invite (and encourage) you to get your account name registered at Poal where we'll be keeping the thread rocking

General Discussion / V's availability sucks...
« on: October 06, 2020, 22:16:05 PM »

I'm cautiously considering the idea of both posting here more frequently *and* possibly opening the invitation system up to some of the better behaved goats.

I definitely value feedback.

This site is running just fine. Not even a countries database error popping up!!!

We have an availability of about 100%, where Voat is probably down around 75% when it isn't cheating and showing a cached page to people who aren't logged in.

Yeah, I definitely value feedback.

General Discussion / Quick update...
« on: October 02, 2019, 12:27:52 PM »

Just to make sure the info is out there, I have rented a suite and adjoining suite down here. This way, I have somewhere to go that is consistent and I can leave stuff here. So, I went shopping yesterday to ensure we can still make and record music while we're down here. We got a car ordered, so that we'll have transportation while we're down here.

So, the place is leased for a year. That gives at least an approximation of the length of intent. Over this year, I would expect to see me down this way fairly often.

Also, it's cold and rainy back home. Down here, it's a hot day in the 90s.
