I don't see a photograph, but digital is so much easier. I don't even need much in the way of skill and the missus was able to pick up and do much of my mixing for me.

Also, holy balls...

Check the forum stats - like the total number of page views. That's fucking insane.

However, most of the traffic - easily 95% - is bots. Most of the web's traffic is just computers talking to computers, estimated to be in the 90 to 95% range.

See? I even 'membered to click thanks!

And, I'm not even 100% certain that I'll show up. If I do, I do have a track to share. I got a couple more tracks finished and sent to me by email. Other than that, I've not really got much of anything doing.

Man... I am exhausted. The kid can't even walk yet, and already she exhausts me.

Entirely unrelated: EH is in her glory. She called room service for ice cream. They didn't have black cherry, but they seem to have sent someone to get some as they just delivered an entire half gallon of the stuff, still in the carton. I'm morbidly curious to see if she eats all of it in one sitting. I've no idea how she stays skinny.

Until about 30 minutes ago, I was wanting to say Tom Petty was a better guitarist than he really was.
I decided to listen to his entire discography. That was a mistake.

Link?

(Feel free to link to sites. Hell, feel free to use affiliate links, if you want. I have ZERO problem with that. I also have ZERO problem with people promoting their own goods and services.)

Come to think of it, I should write a sticky post about promotions and affiliate links. They are fine here, so long as the user is an active participant and the goal is sharing information. Hell, you can even promote your albums and shit here. Yeah, I should formalize this and put it in writing.

I'll add it to my to-do list, though I won't be touching that list until probably January.

LOL @EH has another female in the house, in a similar age range. On top of that, the other female is a capable guitar player.

I get respite! However, I don't think she's checked the site since like Thursday! I'll yell at her. Fucking slacker! ;-)

To avoid duplicate entries, I'll let @COF add them. There are unlimited slots and there are ample server resources 'cause that doesn't take up a lot of resources - just some database space and a quick call to the rnd() PHP function. I don't believe there's a limit or that it'll ever become a resource issue. I suppose we might want to rotate 'em out as time passes. We shall see.

Recording and Production / Re: Experiencing a weird issue with recording

Technical correction: You do have a sound card, it's just built in! (It's still considered a sound card, it's an 'onboard sound card.') At least I'm 99.98% sure of this.

Are you referring to the volume fading in and out?

If so, there's a few things you can try. One, it's probably the mic. If you went too cheap, you get too cheap. Reviews will help with that.

In my learning process, I first tried an onboard sound card. I had zero luck. I then got some cheap $20 card. I also had zero luck. I then bought a very, very expensive professional sound card - and I had zero luck.

It turns out, the 2nd one (the $20 one) was fine. I was just REALLY bad at it. With the onboard sound, I'd fill the buffer and get points of silence. That went away with the cheap one - and I suspect other problems went away but I was still too new to notice them.

The expensive sound card sits in a PC that I don't actually use. It made so little difference that I haven't bothered moving it. I also thought I had another buffer issue, but that was actually an Audacity timing issue that took some work to resolve and has nothing to do with your problem.

One of the causes might be electronic interference. Your devices are probably leaky. They're emitting all sorts of EMR. That could cause this problem.

What you can try is moving the mic as far away from the computer as the cord will let it go.

There's also the distance of the mic from the amp. You can try increasing that distance.

And, of course, this is really @MrHarryReems domain. He may think of something I don't know.

LOL Read 42 times.

I'd call you an attention whore but that'd be mean and that's kinda what you're supposed to be doing. Keep 'em eating from the palm of your hand, kid.

Also, blame @COF if you don't like tonight's movie.

LOL Hun, I'm a horrible influence. At least you started off in style!

"I am EH, hear me roar!"

Well, gents... If a LITTLE GIRL can start making posts and sharing, what's stopping you?

You did a great job, kid. Even the mix is good to my ears. A little bit heavy with #1 at the 2nd solo, maybe tone it down a bit and let the acoustic through a little more. Did you keep the .wav files?

Disclosure: I wasn't sure what she was going to do with this song. She was like, "I can play that. That's easy!" Then she told me I had to do the rhythm and the backup guitar parts 'cause she still has trouble multi-tracking to her own playing. The metronome is not yet an innate sense!

That blinking light is there to remind you. The true timing actually comes from inside, not from the light. Still, she's getting better at using minimum force. She's not hammering on the strings, so you get the clean tones. She is my understudy in whom I am well pleased.

Also, she can post here all she wants. We are firm believers in nepotism! Fuck with her and I will cut you!

Don't give up on this forum, Buddha. I'm hoping that it gets wheels. You've got me excited to engage in breaking my rut and having fun playing the guitar again and this is the venue I'm hoping will do it for me.
It's not up to me, really. I won't give up on it, that's for sure. But, it's just like the FNGT. I just put it here and get it started. It's up to you folks to make it into something special.

When I started the weekly guitar threads, it was often pretty much just me sharing - sometimes only a few comments from one or two other people. I didn't give up then. I don't give up easily, actually. I built it as a framework, figuring it could do some good for people that really wanted to spend some effort working on and teaching their musicianship.

(I found a bug! Quote doesn't work in quick reply! I'm not going to try to squish it tonight.)

That was a pain in the ass. Alcohol probably didn't help.
Also, there's a shoutbox. Dunno why, but it seemed appropriate.
